UPDATE: VistAdvance has been updated to v1.1, and now supports AppToDate for ease of future updating. The theme has also undergone a few bug fixes, so all existing users are encouraged to update. Please have a look below for a warning about uninstalling v1.0, and also a list of fixes that have been applied to this new version.

It's been a while since I've updated the Wisbar Advance PocketPC theme that I created over a year ago, and I've been promising myself I would release a better version to everyone as soon as I could. It took a bit longer than expected, but I'm proud to offer the VistAdvance Wisbar Theme for your downloadable enjoyment! This theme is for WVGA+VGA (both WAD+WA3) or WQVGA+QVGA (WA3-only) PocketPCs running either Wisbar Advance v3+ or Wisbar Advance Desktop v2+ (having both installed is recommended).

VistAdvance Preview

Lots of time and development have been put into creating this, and I couldn't have done it without the majority of graphics from Corleno. Thanks to him for allowing me to 'remix' his original PocketPC / Wisbar theme, "Vista Pocket". Most of the topbar and softkey skins are from that theme, but the desktop is a freshly-updated design from me. I have also included wallpaper/backgrounds from mx-steel's "Dream Series". Read on after the pics for installation instructions and download links:

Check out the video demonstration below to learn how the theme works before installing it on your device (view it in Full Screen mode for best results):

General Theme Installation Instructions:

Warning: If you have downloaded version 1.0 of VistAdvance, please UNINSTALL it first before installing the new themes. All v1.1+ installers for VistAdvance will perform this for you, as I have fixed how the .CAB was built.

  1. Copy the downloaded .CAB files to your Pocket PC
  2. Ensure that you have about 5-6mb free on your phone's device storage (each theme takes about 2.5-3mb, hopefully this isn't an issue if your phone has WVGA resolution!)
  3. Using any File Explorer, execute the .cab files on your device
  4. The standard installation procedure will begin
  5. Install the .CAB file to the DEVICE
    • Repeat the above procedure for the second .CAB if you're using both the WA3 + WAD themes
Wisbar Advance v3.x Configuration:
  1. Go into WA3 Settings and click Theme » Wisbar Theme
  2. You should see VistAdvance in the list. Select it and click OK again
  3. Select both checkboxes for Taskbar buttons and Sound scheme, then click OK
  4. Click OK all the way out, and it should show you the splash screen, then get applied.
Wisbar Advance Desktop v2.x Configuration:
  1. Simply install the .CAB file then reboot. It will set the VistAdvance WAD2 theme as your primary Landscape/Portrait theme
  2. Once back in WAD2, ensure that Author Mode is unchecked/disabled
  3. Make sure you go through all of the WAD settings to config it how you want. You'll need to specify the primary city for the Weather info to work
  4. Enjoy using VistAdvance!

Extras Included:

  • Blue-themed .tsk file to change OS/BaseHue color (accessible via WM Settings » Personal » Today)
  • *TIP* Ensure that you have ClearType enabled for the best look (accessible via WM Settings » System » Screen)
  • WVGA Portrait and Landscape Wallpapers available! (preview below)

Please consider buying me a beer! I sacrificed a lot of time to build this theme for public use and create a .cab installer for easy installation. Thanks in advance for showing your support and encouraging me to update these themes!

Great theme! Best I ever seen!
Works great on HTC touch hd.

Two things:
the themes have wrong names… portrait is landscape and landscape is portrait and I get a message that the file “volume.exe” is not found.

but great work of course!

by Sebastian on 01.08.2009 @ 09:05 AM » #

Thanks! Very glad you enjoy it!

In terms of the wrong names, I was aware of this and changed the names because they were reversed in the emulator that I was developing the theme on. Reversing the names fixed it in the emulator, but it seems that on real devices, the names are still reversed.

You can change them back if needed, although it’s quite a minor issue (just set LAND to Portrait theme, and vice versa). Volume.exe missing is quite odd because it’s included with Wisbar Advance. If you have ONLY the Wisbar Advance Desktop theme installed, then it might not work, so you’d have to reconfigure that button to launch whichever volume control program you’d like.

Thanks again for the kind words, and enjoy the theme!!

Beautiful skin very clean and functional, thanx for sharing. I really would like to use it but…..On my x51v the bottom extends below my screen. Any suggestions?

Ok just got on Lakeridge forums, seem to be having server issues(?), and read that the problem is WVGA vs VGA. Big bummer!
PS.
Your image verification is the most difficult 1 to decipher of any I have come across.

i have problem
i ve install it but i cant find icon in programs.
i use HTC HD. nothing gonna change. pls help

by mascot on 01.20.2009 @ 11:53 AM » #

8

Hi mascot,

As per the installation instructions, the theme must be activated within Wisbar Advance/Wisbar Advance Desktop itself. There is NO icon/start menu entry that is installed with this package.

The .cab file simply copies all required files to folders on your device, after which Wisbar should be able to see them and allow you to set them as your primary themes.

Hope that helps, but let me know if you’re still having difficulty.

Thanks for downloading!

I Lick this theme.

any chance 4 WAD2 n VGA .

by abumhmmd1 on 01.29.2009 @ 04:02 PM » #

10

Thanks! I presume you meant “like” ;)

There is definitely a chance that I will make this theme for VGA if I get a good response of people who would be interested.

I run this web design business and I am quite busy, so I don’t want to start the task of creating the VGA version from scratch if there won’t be much of a demand for it.

Hello.. THank you for your well done work. I have installed the WAD but nothing happens. What shall i do next?

by ERnie on 01.30.2009 @ 12:34 AM » #

12

Hi.. I tink i have misunderstood the website. This is a theme only rite? and I am supposed to get the software from lakeridge? May I know am i supposed to get both the Advance and advance desktop or only one will do?

by ERnie on 01.30.2009 @ 03:22 AM » #

13

ERnie, you are definitely correct in stating that this is just a ‘theme-only’, and does require EITHER Wisbar Advance 3 or Wisbar Advance Desktop.

You’ll notice that there are 2 .cab files to download, one for WA3, and one for WAD. You can use only one at a time, or use them both at the same time, depending on which programs you installed from Lakeridge Software.

Hope that helps to clear it up, but let me know if you still have any questions.

Thanks!

On my German HTC Touch HD when I install the theme for Wisbar Advance Desktop the program is plain black.
Is there any problem with path names?

by Thomas on 02.07.2009 @ 10:04 AM » #

17

I found out that you use “CE1“ which obviously returns the wrong path “Program Files” in German versions of WM 6.1. You should use “ProgramFiles“ or something like that instead.

Because in Germany the path is “Programme” and in other countries it might be something else.

After copying the theme to the correct place I managed to set it for portrait and landscape.

But portrait mode still shows a black screen and nothing else.

Hi,

at first please excuse my bad english.

I have installed the WA3 Theme and it´s look very nice! But it doesn´t show the Signal-Strengh and the Battery-Status!? Can you help me? Please contact me by e-mail.

Thx Christian

love the look and feel of this theme. i use the touch diamond and would much like to see this in vga. much nicer feel to it than the touch flow 3d!!!

thanks
Olstar

by Olstar on 02.09.2009 @ 05:40 PM » #

@Christian:

There shouldn’t problem with the skin itself, but if you want Wisbar Advance 3 to display the Signal Strength + Battery Status, you’ll need to investigate how to configure Wisbar Advance 3. There are settings which enable you to show/hide certain icons at the top, and you can also configure their positions. It is a per-user setting, so it does not carry across in my installer. The skin does properly style any element you do choose to show/hide though.

There is a GREAT .pdf article which is available below, and should explain everything to you:

http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/downloads/wa3.pdf

@Olstar:

Good news! The VGA version is almost ready and should be released very soon! I would appreciate it if you could install it and let me know if everything works properly.

I still have to look at how to localize the paths in WinCE so that users of other languages have the theme work properly.

Wats up, installed on my htc touch pro and everything seems relatively perfect for me (when i download from the pc, something always goes wrong through opera mobile) Just wondering how do i get everything like the icons and text to stop moving about? i like them where day are.

by FolaB on 02.10.2009 @ 04:23 PM » #

22

@FolaB:

Great stuff man, glad you’re liking it! In regards to your icons/text moving around, I should have “Locked” the items within those Dock objects, but I have forgotten :( I’ll try to fix this in the next update, but regardless, there is an easy fix:

It’s highly recommended that when you’re using the theme on a day-to-day basis, ensure you have “Author Mode” disabled or unchecked. You can find this out by tap and holding on an area of the screen, and as long as it’s not on an element (I use the very edge of the screen, beside the top dock), it will pop up a menu where you will see “Author Mode” checked, and you can disable it. If you don't want to reposition all of the elements you accidentally moved, just reinstall the theme, and ensure that you turn Author Mode OFF right away.

You’ll also be able to use the Gestures of swiping your finger Left/Right/Up on the normal pages, and Left/Right/Down on the system status page.

Having Author Mode disabled always ensures that everything stays locked in place ;)

Hope that helps…

nice job, i installed it on my touch diamond but the layout extends below my screen. I can see all of the contact boxes but not the arrows and the clock? What is wrong?

by toma on 02.11.2009 @ 04:27 PM » #

25

thanks it works now, still perfect haven’t experienced any glitches or even tempted to go back to touchflo 3d, one more question could i have like a 3rd page just for more programs, or maybe just a button that takes me to the programs page rather than using the start menu?

by FolaB on 02.12.2009 @ 01:17 PM » #

26

please help how to install this on omnia. i so tempted to have this. i already installed hthe WA3, but nothing happens in my WM device. No wisbar icon added on my program list. please contact me on my email. thanks in advance.

by ron on 02.17.2009 @ 08:12 AM » #

27

@Morandres:

Thanks! I’m really glad you like it :D

@toma:

You might have downloaded the wrong version, that being WVGA. The Diamond is a VGA device, so uninstall that version of the theme, and put back on the VGA version. That should help!

@FolaB:

Great, glad you’ve got it working nicely. You can create a third page, but it is quite an involved process which I can’t explain here. Lakeridge Software has a great PDF which documents everything about WAD2, so you should find the answer there. Just remember to enable that new page into the <— and —> buttons at the bottom corners of the screen.

@ron:

Unfortunately the Omnia is a WQVGA device, which has a different resolution than my theme supports now. Keep an eye out, and I will most likely get some time to release that version later on.

Also, you should uninstall the theme you downloaded from here, as it is just taking up space. Note that NO icons will be installed, as it’s meant to be a theme-only for the Wisbar Advance/Wisbar Advance Desktop programs available at www.lakeridgesoftware.com

by georgeM on 02.17.2009 @ 05:33 PM » #

28

Great theme, just have a question can you remove a contact or program after you add them to the tabs? If so how?

by Chris on 02.20.2009 @ 09:00 AM » #

29

@Chris:

While looking at the grid, make sure you’re in Author Mode, then tap and hold on the grid, select Properties (or the bottom-most menu option), then simply put a checkbox next to the “Show delete icon”.

Once you click OK, you’ll see that the lower-right most icon has disappeared, and in its place is a delete icon. Tap this once, then tap on the icon you want to remove. It’s as easy as that! Note that if you had an icon where the delete button appeared, you’ll have to re-add it after you check the grid Properties again and DISABLE the delete icon.

Hope that helps, and if you need more info regarding Wisbar, http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com
has excellent documentation!

Dear Sirs,

I was using a HTC TouchPro2 in Oktober. I tested your VistAdvance theme on it and I liked it very much. It has a simple and user-friendly surface, but includes all the important functions you need and what is more it can be can developped further.

As far as I am concerned, I use a Samsung i900 Omnia and I would have liked to develop the same theme for my (WQVGA) gadget. Since you were not interested in developing it for WQVGA, I did it – I hope you don’t mind – and I reshaped it a little to my personal taste. See the pictures on my website… I use it, but of course I won’t distribute it in any form without your approval.

I would like you to have a look at it, and i wonder if you were interested in distributing it in case you like it. If you think it needs some reshaping in order to make it easier to use, of course we can do that.
I haven’t got any sense of planning theme or graphics, but if you have any ready themes, I would be happy to take part in its (e.g. WAD2) realization.

I’ll be looking forward your positive answer.

My best wishes Béla Erdős
